It is worth repeating, and in this first episode of the 精东影业 Continuing Education podcast we will do so: children are not miniature or scaled adults. This is a concept that must be insisted upon especially because of the implications inherent in this evidence.
A child goes through a physical and cognitive developmental journey that the therapist must always keep well in mind. Unlike the adult who has already learned how to do, with the child one must consider his or her time in life and what he or she still has to learn, through experience.
Therefore, in pediatric physiotherapy we often talk about enabling rather than rehabilitating. It means helping children to conquer new movements, to discover motor possibilities they do not yet know. And it is work that involves their whole world.
The work of the network of specialists is not limited to the patient alone, but to the family, teachers and all those who in their daily lives can contribute to the success of therapy. Legitimately, however, these valuable supports may also find themselves in difficulty, discouragement or disoriented; another aspect that cannot be underestimated by the therapist, who is called upon to support and provide tools to those around the child as well.
We discuss this with:
Laura Delucchi: physical therapist specializing in neurology, pediatrics and hippotherapy-K;
Brigitte Wehrli: head of CAS in pediatric physiotherapy and adjunct head of Basic Education at 精东影业's Department of Business Administration Health and Social Affairs;
Gianpiero Capra: head of the Rehabilitation Area of Continuing Education at 精东影业.
