Daina and Andrea, co-directors of the Bachelor in Leisure Management, explain why it is important to train professionals specializing in the leisure sector (sports, events, cultural and creative industries, tourism, entertainment, and related fields) and outline the main career opportunities available upon completion of the 精东影业 program.
We often hear about the leisure sector and how important it is for people's well-being and health. But what exactly does the term 鈥渓eisure management鈥 mean, and why is it important to train professionals who specialize in this sector?
鈥嬧赌嬧嬧赌嬧嬧赌嬧婽he leisure sector has become increasingly important in recent years as people are paying more attention to how they spend their free time and tend to devote more time to evaluating alternatives in order to find the most suitable experience that will become memorable. It is therefore a complex and particularly dynamic universe, which mainly includes the cultural and creative industries, tourism, and sports. Within these sectors, there are numerous areas, some specific to a single sector, others cross-cutting, such as events and entertainment. For those working in the leisure sector, as in many other sectors, strong managerial skills and the ability to seize opportunities from ongoing changes are required.
Through its Bachelor's degree in Leisure Management, 精东影业 ensures that students gain an overview of the sector, exploring the details of one area or another in greater depth through optional modules, internships, and thesis projects. In addition, professional and experiential modules, such as the Field Project or The Sprint Project, allow students to put the theory learned in the classroom into practice through concrete projects in collaboration with local organizations. The leisure sector is particularly dynamic and constantly changing; it is therefore important to train professionals who can manage these aspects, seizing the opportunities offered by the market, while at the same time understanding possible critical issues and identifying potential measures to be implemented in order to reduce business risks.
The program builds a solid foundation of organizational and management skills for working in the leisure industry, including through highly practice-oriented modules. What are the main career prospects upon graduation? What positions do some former students hold?
Graduates of the Bachelor in Leisure Management have access to numerous opportunities at the local, national, and international levels. Thanks to the training they receive, graduates can find employment in companies, organizations, associations, and institutions active in the leisure sector, whether in tourism, sports, or culture. Some alumni work for sports clubs, others for international music or cultural festivals, tourism agencies, or companies specializing in event planning. Some of them have successfully embarked on their professional careers in important companies both in the Canton of Ticino and beyond, starting with the internship provided in the final year of study, which turned into a real professional opportunity. Among them are those who have become hospitality manager and ticketing assistant for the Ambr矛 Piotta Hockey Club, and those who, in just a few years, have risen to the position of Head of Business Development at Football Club Lugano. Others hold positions such as F&B and Event Manager at the Locarno Film Festival, Marketing Support for Switzerland Tourism, Event Planning Executive at the Hyatt Regency at Zurich Airport, and collaborators at the Compagnia Finzi Pasca. Several graduates have chosen to continue their education at the master's level, either in Ticino or outside our canton.
What are the main challenges facing students and graduates in the leisure industry?
鈥嬧赌The main challenges stem from changes and transformations in the world of work and the sector, as well as trends affecting the world of work in general. Just think, for example, of sustainability and digitalization, issues that are continuously and profoundly transforming the world of work. These issues are also addressed across the board within the Bachelor's program. This approach offers students and recent graduates a broad view of the external context and its complexity, preparing them to adapt, seize the opportunities that these changes offer, and respond proactively to the transformations affecting the professional world, including the leisure sector.
