Nataša, 28, a graduate of the Bachelor in Leisure Management in 2024 tells about her professional experience at Moon&Stars. A career as an Event Specialist and production assistant started from her internship in her 3rd year of studies at the Zurich office of this major music festival.
What profession are you currently in?
â¶Ä‹I currently work at Moon&Stars Festival as an Event Specialist and production assistant. My role ranges widely between organizing the timeline of different elements of the assembly and disassembly phases of the festival, to more operational activities such as staff management, crew catering or dressing room support. During the preparation period of the festival I am also partly in charge of booking artists, giving support in writing bids and contracts.
Why did you choose a university education? And why, in particular, the Bachelor's degree in Leisure Management at ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ?
â¶Ä‹It was a personal challenge to get out of the comfort zone. My passion for concerts and events in general made me choose this path. It also allowed me, at least at the beginning of the training, to be flexible and continue working while not having to totally give up my economic independence. The moment the program became more substantial, I then chose to continue only with classes in order to be able to finish the training in an optimal way.
What elements of the training have impressed you the most? And what aspects were most useful for your profession?
â¶Ä‹The course of study in Leisure Management is relatively young and, in my opinion, constantly evolving, improving year after year. What impressed me from the beginning were the collaborations with major companies and prominent professionals, both in classes and in internships and teaching projects. A concrete example is my own experience: my current job position grew out of a third-year internship at Moon&Stars, which gave me the opportunity to further my career, move to a dynamic city like Zurich, home of the main office, and perfect my German language skills.
In my daily work, the skills I use most are those acquired in project and event management, which I developed during my studies. In addition, many of the concepts related to professional growth and entrepreneurship allow me to continuously set new challenges and career goals, contributing to my personal and professional development.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to pursue your path/profession?
â¶Ä‹For those who wish to pursue a career in the leisure industry, I highly recommend this course of study as an excellent foundation for exploring their professional inclinations. The opportunity to study the various areas of Leisure, such as cultural and creative industries, sports, tourism, and different types of events, provides a broad and articulate view of the industry, allowing you to navigate your way more consciously to the field that best suits your interests. During your studies, it is important to keep an open mind and not set limits for yourself: taking every opportunity to learn about new companies and professions will significantly enrich your skill set. Personally, I did not have a good level of German, but I took up the challenge during my internship, which led to me getting a job and developing a crucial language skill that is particularly valuable in the Swiss work environment.
