Participants must design a prototype housing unit that reflects the personal and cultural needs of the chosen residential community. The aggregation of these housing units must take place in an urban setting.
A total of 100 users should be considered for the design. Participants must choose a site relevant to the theme. The design must serve to improve the users' standard of living. While being very functional, it must also be aesthetically appealing.
The design of the micro-housing complex must also include mobility solutions, such as stairs, passageways, etc.
Since it is set in precarious emergency situations, sustainability, the availability of local or waste materials from the emergency itself and low consumption of these materials is crucial.
The students opted for a renovation of a building in an area currently devastated by the war in Ukraine. The project is focused on the recollection of the site and the restoration of the original space through structural and functional adjustments, trying to meet the programme requirements listed in the competition.
The project presented by students Vittoria Rezzonico, Gabriele Sciaresa and Federico Sciaresa, won third prize out of around 1000 other proposals submitted.
