Sabrina Brondolo is Co-Head of CAS Pedopsychiatry, a training proposal created in 2023 to respond to the growing need of professionals in the social-health area to equip themselves with skills useful in the assessment and treatment of preadolescents, adolescents and young adults increasingly confronted with behavioral and psycho-affective distress.
What are you professionally involved in and what role do you play within CAS Pedopsychiatry?
â¶Ä‹I am a medical doctor specializing in child and adolescent psychiatry and psychotherapy, and after a long clinical and directive experience in the cantonal health care institution I now devote myself to freelance practice, both as a curator and as a trainer and supervisor. Within the CAS Pedopsychiatry I play the dual role of lecturer and scientific collaborator for the organizational and conceptual part.
Who is it aimed at and what skills does it enable?
â¶Ä‹It is aimed primarily at nurses, paramedical health personnel, social workers, and educators who work closely with pre-adolescents and adolescents bearing mental and emotional distress.
CAS was first offered in 2023; where did the need for training in pedopsychiatry come from?
â¶Ä‹The need arises from the growing behavioral and psycho-affective distress manifested in the developmental age that leads so many minors to access places of care and sheltered social-educational pathways, putting the Workers who work there in the condition of having to equip themselves with theoretical tools and relational and care models that are current and effective.
Why should a social health professional enroll in this pathway?
â¶Ä‹To be able to increase one's theoretical background on the topic and, with the scientific contributions provided by the lecturers, with group work and thematic mediation activities, to attempt to provide a key to dysfunctional behaviors and suffering of adolescents, so as to ensure a more effective approach.
What message would you like to leave behind for people in the future who attend the course?
â¶Ä‹Participating in the CAS Pedopsychiatry is not only about receiving theoretical knowledge, but also about getting involved on a personal level and bringing one's own experiential contribution to complement the more strictly theoretical-scientific one brought by the lecturers. It is very exciting to observe the growth and fellowship of the group over the months.
