from 14:00 to 17:00
The representation of children and adolescents in judicial proceedings constitutes a concrete application and articulation of their right to participation enshrined in Article 12 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Children and adolescents come into contact with the judicial system in many different ways. These may involve family matters such as divorce or adoption, protective measures concerning them, administrative procedures, or criminal justice processes as victims, witnesses, or perpetrators of offenses. When faced with the judicial system, children and adolescents encounter a complex world that they sometimes struggle to understand. It is therefore necessary to ensure that both access to justice and the processes within it are always child-friendly. The representative lawyer acts as a crucial point of contact for these minors. The dialogue event is aimed at those who wish to gain a concrete understanding of the possibilities for the participation of children and adolescents in civil justice proceedings, who have direct experience, for example in hearing minors, in their legal representation, or as professionals involved in these interdisciplinary contexts.
Target audience
Lawyers and representatives of children and adolescents, magistrates, professionals active in child protection, guardians, members of protection authorities, experts, psychologists, social workers, and educators.
