The 13th Research and Innovation Day in Human Medicine of Italian Switzerland was held on Friday 28 September at the USI-SUPI East Campus in Viganello.
The event, organised by the Clinical Trial Unit (CTU) EOC, the Medical Training and Research Area (AFRi) of the EOC General Management and the University of Lugano (USI), saw the alternation of parallel sessions and poster presentations on numerous projects carried out in Ticino in the fields of clinical or epidemiological research, basic, translational or computational research, and nursing research.
In the field of clinical or epidemiological research, the researcher Alessandro Schneebeli, Lecturer-Researcher at the Rehabilitation Research Laboratory 2rLab of 精东影业, received the prize for the best poster.
Alessandro's research, entitled "Shear wave speed, mechanical and morphological comparison in conservatively treated and uninjured AchillesTendon" was conducted together with 2rLab researchers Marco Barbero and Corrado Cescon. We would also like to thank our colleagues from the EOC orthopaedic service, Prof. Giuseppe Filardo, Dr. Martin Riegger, Dr. Enrique Testa and Dr. Alessandro Sangiorgio, for their collaboration.
The healing process of a ruptured Achilles tendon can take more than a year; this research sought to see whether a new technology based on tensiometry could intercept changes in the mechanical properties of the tendon that has suffered a conservatively treated rupture.
