The TC1210 was one of Sony's first portable Cassette Tape recorders that had a colorful plastic unibody and playful lines.
Radio Mia aims to reinvent this iconic analog design object by enabling it for digital use with a modern smartphone.
The final object is modelled with Fusion360 and prototyped with a combination of laser cutting and 3D printing.

The radio is redesigned with 5 3D-printed button mechanisms to contact the smartphone screen.
They correspond with the play, stop, fast forward, rewind, and record buttons of the original object.
The interface is designed in Figma to replicate typical podcast apps and to map the contact points of the podcast app to the physical buttons.
The button mechanism has a simple spring-back action with the use of elastic bands and is printed with conductive PLA so that it works well with the smartphone surface.
