Thanks to a redesigned multilingual interface and improved search functions
integrated collections of sources and data can be explored even more easily.
In addition to textual sources, the portal now also integrates new sources and materials for the history
of education such as photographs and school drawings. In addition, it enables the integration of research data with historical sources through a single tool, guaranteeing direct access to their digital storage locations at all times, thus providing expanded contextualisation and improved traceability of results.
The new version of the portal was realised in 2024 in cooperation with the IT section of the University Library of Basel with partners arbim IT and OUTERMEDIA GmbH, using software components developed and used for the swisscollections portal.
The project is not only an adaptation to current technological standards, but also definitely looks towards the future. Innovative aspects include the possibility of integrating smaller collections of data and sources in the future, e.g. from university archives or digital collections of school museums and archives, which in this way can be valorised and made usable for research in educational history. Thus, the portal contributes to networking collections of sources, institutions and people researching in the field of educational history research, overcoming language and geographical barriers.
The portal is managed by the supporting association History of Education Switzerland, whose members are universities, foundations, school museums and other institutions active in the research, collection and dissemination of sources on the history of education. In addition to the contributions from these institutions, the project was also made possible by federal funding within the framework of the PgB Swiss Open Research Data programme of Swissuniversities.
My sincere thanks go to all the people who made this project possible.
