For more than a year, the Swiss universities negotiated a new agreement with Wiley on read access and the possibility of electronic publication in Open Access. The negotiations were broken off in March, as Wiley was not prepared to continue negotiations on the basis of a new agreement.
The latest offer submitted by Wiley certainly contains some interesting elements and incremental improvements compared to the previous offer, but includes a higher price per article than other European countries.
In line with the Open Access strategy, Swiss universities want to ensure financial sustainability in the area of scientific and technical publications. The increasingly high publication costs of the large publishing houses are the subject of fundamental criticism.
swissuniversities is still interested in a reliable relationship with leading academic publishers and is ready to resume negotiations.
