After more than twenty years of collaboration, the Area of theatre education was set up in Ticino between the and the to develop and strengthen the role of theatre in teacher training, enhancing good practices in the area.
The language of theatre and its techniques can be a powerful tool in teacher training, contributing to the exploration of the self and the other. As the authors write, "The art of teaching requires constantly developing and discovering new ways to breathe life into educational contexts. (...) Knowing how to attune, the conscious use of verbal, non-verbal and para-verbal language is part of the teachers' personal toolbox and promotes clear and coherent communication. All this requires great skill and awareness'.
The experimentation and exploration of theatrical experiences "in the educational context creates multiple, individual and relational dynamics that nourish the vitality indispensable to doing school by supporting and strengthening the teaching-learning process that activates the desire to know. Through the language of theatre, pupils and teachers discover parts of themselves and the other hitherto hidden. Theatre invites us to look up, enhances diversity and becomes a source of inspiration and a sign of richness, thus fostering mutual growth'.
