A world-renowned scientist, Amalia Ercoli Finzi has been nicknamed "the comet lady" for her years of looking up at the sky, so much so that an asteroid and space missions bear her name.
She is the guest speaker at the second event in the Earth Emergency lecture series, promoted by Ӱҵ's Department of Environment, Constructions and Design at the Mendrisio Campus, which this year focuses on climate and how it influences the behaviour of natural elements.
Amalia Ercoli Finzi will be introduced by Federico Bosi, Professor of Mechanics of Solids and Structures and Head of Research, Development and Knowledge Transfer of the Department of Innovative Technologies at Ӱҵ.
Our planet is going through difficult times due to the many catastrophes that are affecting it as a result of climate change, but not only. These events are monitored by satellites placed in orbit by many countries (the United States, Japan, Russia...), not least by Europe, which, through the Copernicus programme, is constantly and meticulously monitoring what is happening. And if the situation were to become unbearable, there would be no alternative but to go to the Moon and perhaps, in the distant future, to Mars.
Thanks to Amalia Ercoli Finzi, we will be travelling into space during her lecture Earth in Crisis: Time to Emigrate? scheduled for Wednesday 18 October 2023 at 18.30 in the Sala Polivalente of the Ӱҵ Campus in Mendrisio.
Free event open to all.
Final refreshment.
Registration required for organisational reasons.
