The ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ Centre for Development and Cooperation is active in the four institutional mandates: undergraduate and graduate studies, continuing education, applied research and services, addressing partners such as NGOs, public and private institutions and social enterprises.

The Centre for Development and Cooperation carries out applied research projects on issues related to development, cooperation and humanitarian aid in the Global South as well as in relation to the Global North. Research projects are based on the long-standing experience of ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ researchers and mostly involve long-term partnerships with academic and non-academic institutions in Switzerland and abroad. Research activities contribute to the Agenda 2030 and are in line with the (Swiss Commission for Research Partnerships with Developing Countries).

Migration and society

Migration is a human phenomenon that has shaped societies and humanity throughout history. Migration is an increasingly global issue, linking people, places and futures, and is more and more discussed in the context of (sustainable) development and humanitarianism. In collaboration with other academic and non-governmental institutions, as well as public and private partners, the Centre participates in projects on migration processes at local and international levels, assessing their opportunities and challenges, focusing on people, involved societies and communities.

One Health – Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)

Water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) is a critical component of humanitarian response and global development, encompassing safe water, sanitation and hygiene. CDC is a leader in WASH research, emphasizing holistic approaches to water challenges. It takes a One Health approach that recognises the interdependence of human, animal, plant and environmental health.

Appropriate technologies and social innovation

The "Green it!" project is a public-private partnership aimed at promoting the development of appropriate technologies in the Global South, aligning with the goals of Agenda 2030. It is a collaborative effort between ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ and Green it Research & Technology PLC, a social enterprise established in Ethiopia.

Art and society: creative paths to peace and social transformation

The arts have the potential to disrupt our daily realities, offering us a mirror or interruption of our normalized everyday life. In multiple contexts around the world, various artistic disciplines are activated in social, peacebuilding, historical memory, and cross-cultural communication projects.
