Villa Cicogna Mozzoni in Bisuschio (Varese) is one of the most important Renaissance villas in Lombardy. Thanks to an agreement with the Fondazione Maria Cristina Cicogna Mozzoni Onlus, it was possible to initiate a long-term collaboration to promote significant intervention projects. The first of these dealt with the portico at the entrance to the villa, on which scenes from Ovid's The Metamorphoses and intricate grotesque decorations dating from around 1562-63 are depicted.
The paintings on the portico presented serious problems of instability and visibility due to the exposure of the walls to sun and rain, rising damp, and seepage, aggravated by the presence of a protective coating applied in the 1960s that, as it deteriorated, obscured the reading of the decoration. 
 
The working group composed of students from the Master's Degree in Conservation and Restoration, directed by restorer Stefania Luppichini and assistants Giulia Russo and Agata Bordi, developed an intervention methodology that aimed to consolidate the paint film in danger of falling off and to remove the yellowed fixative, in order to bring back the original colour of the decoration. The intervention made it possible to recover a magical spatial continuity between the real landscape and the painted landscape.
