Barbara Antonioli Mantegazzini graduated in Law with a specialisation in Economics from the University of Ferrara. After a scholarship at ENEA (National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development), she obtained a PhD in Economics and Institutions from the University of Bologna. Subsequently, she continued her academic career by studying in depth the topics organisation and regulation of public services at LATTS, Laboratoire Techniques Territoires et Sociétés (CNRS, Ecole nationale des ponts et chaussées, Université Gustave Eiffel), and then as a lecturer at the Bocconi University.
Since 2005, her academic career has alternated between applied research and teaching at the University of (full professor since 2021) and the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland. In her role as Deputy Director of the USI Institute of Economic Research, she has studied the socio-economic dynamics of the territory, developing an integrated vision of the economy, public policy and sustainable development with a regional, national and supranational perspective.
His research interests focus on the public economy, in particular on the innovation of organisational models of collective consumption services and institutions with a public dimension.
Thanks to his solid legal and economic background, he has been able to combine a multidisciplinary approach with applied research in the analysis of complex issues complex issues, particularly those related to energy policies (energy communities, integration of renewables), welfare policies,
social protection, demography and the role of non-profit organisations.
From 1st May 2025 Barbara Antonioli Mantegazzini – appointed on 21 February by the ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ Council as Full Professor of Public Economics Public and Sustainability Policies - will take over the leadership of the Competence Centre for Labour, Welfare and Social Research, replacing Spartaco Greppi to whom the Management of ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ and the Department of Business Economics, Health and Social Care express their most sincere thanks for all the work carried out in favour of the Institution and the CLWS in the many years of collaboration and management.
