The appointment of the first Full Professors marks a significant milestone in the revision of ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ's professorial careers. Initiated in February 2021 and concluded last October, this process led to the creation of two new professorial levels: Full Professor and Associate Professor.
With a medium- to long-term perspective, the revision of the professorial career structure aims to organize and enhance career paths, ensuring greater recognition and comparability of titles within the academic context and among funding bodies.
The new regulations allowed existing Professors to apply for promotion to Full or Associate Professor. Their evaluation, based on defined criteria, was conducted on behalf of the ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ Council by commissions of experts recognized in various fields of competence.
Of the 60 individuals honored during the professorial title conferment ceremony held at the Mendrisio Campus, 40 were Professors who have been active in this role for several years and have now been promoted to Full or Associate Professors, while 20 were appointed in the last two years.
These significant recognitions reward the value of teaching activities and the quality of research projects that have distinguished their academic and professional journeys. At the same time, they represent a valuable enrichment for ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ in terms of skills, projects, and the ability to establish collaborative networks, benefiting students and territorial partners.
The title of "Professor," without the indication of Associate/Full, was issued by the ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ Council until October 2023. Those who obtained it can choose to retain it indefinitely.
During the professorial title conferment ceremony, senior appointments were also made. These have always represented an important milestone in the academic and professional development path for lecturers, professional lecturers, lecturer-researchers, and researchers. In this case, a new internal process was adopted, effective from May 2024, more harmonized within ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ.
