Anna Valente's appointment was recognised for her commitment to the Swiss scientific and economic ecosystem, in particular for her leadership of innovative projects in the field of industrial and production techniques.
All members are elected by secret ballot by those entitled to vote, under the direction of an electoral commission. The SATW now has 375 ordinary members and 9 honorary members.

The Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences (SATW) is Switzerland's leading network of experts in the field of engineering. It is in contact with the country's highest scientific, political and industrial authorities. The network consists of individual members, associated companies and experts, all appointed by their peers. On behalf of the Swiss Confederation, the SATW identifies key technological developments for industry and informs politics and society of their importance and consequences. As a unique professional organisation, the Academy offers independent, objective and global expertise on technologies. Its aim is to encourage the expression of well-founded opinions. The SATW also promotes interest in and understanding of technology among the general public, particularly young people. It is politically independent and non-commercial.
