Students will acquire the ability to recognise and consider ideas connected with sustainability and apply them within a framework for sustainable cultural heritage management. Sustainability is defined by United Nations as 鈥淢eeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs鈥. If cultural heritage is to be preserved as a legacy for the future, current conservation and restoration procedures must become intrinsically linked with the development of sustainable practices related to energy consumption, green conservation (products and materials), and the development of new mindsets within the field of cultural heritage.
By the end of the module, students will be able to: - adopt standards and good practices in conservation sustainability; - apply methodologies and tools to measure product sustainability and evaluate on-site work, and conservation processes that promote sustainable choices; - identify and suggest changes in the field of conservation-restoration to reduce negative environmental consequences.
