In this module, students will understand the role of scientific investigations in the various phases of a conservation process. The course is based on knowledge from BA course on investigation (non-invasive and invasive) and will focus on scientific research and investigations to support the diagnostic process and the development of long-term maintenance.
By the end of the module, students will be able to: - plan a diagnostic study using a methodological approach to identify the causes and mechanism of deterioration; - identify and communicate with the multidisciplinary professionals that should be involved in supporting diagnostic study: - follow the development of the investigations, understanding how to comprehensively document a scientific study and how to contribute in the interpretation of collected data; - demonstrate the ability to prepare a detailed monitoring plan based on the information and understanding acquired during conservation-restoration interventions; - understand and communicate the importance and the role of post intervention monitoring and maintenance plan.
