Antonio Serradifalco, from the University of Palermo, carried out a visiting mobility at the DFA/ASP in Locarno for his research on school multilingualism. He completed the first chapter of his thesis, consulted experts, and visited linguistic institutions in Italian-speaking Switzerland.
What motivated you to undertake a visiting period and why did you choose the DFA/ASP?
â¶Ä‹â€‹â¶Ä‹â€‹â¶Ä‹â€‹â¶Ä‹â€‹The main motivation for undertaking a visiting period was the opportunity to enrich my research project through interaction with experts and the chance to explore new perspectives. I chose the DFA/ASP for its academic excellence, strategic location, and the unique linguistic features of the area, which align perfectly with my field of study and the objectives of my professional path. Additionally, the department's educational offerings are a valuable resource for deepening the topics of my interest.
What was your first impression of the DFA/ASP? How would you describe the academic environment you joined and how were you welcomed?
â¶Ä‹â€‹â¶Ä‹â€‹â¶Ä‹â€‹â¶Ä‹â€‹My first impression of the DFA/ASP was very positive. The environment is professional and welcoming, with a convenient and easily accessible location. The facilities are modern and well-organized, with functional spaces that allow for autonomous use, ideal for my educational needs.
Can you briefly tell us about your project and how this visiting experience contributed to its development?
â¶Ä‹â€‹â¶Ä‹â€‹â¶Ä‹â€‹â¶Ä‹â€‹A part of my research project focuses on investigating multilingual realities and the promotion of local varieties in the school context. This experience was particularly significant as it provided me with the opportunity to engage with professors from different fields who, in one way or another, also address linguistic issues in Ticino. I was also able to share the results of my research during a Breakpoint meeting, receiving valuable insights for the continuation of my work.
How would you overall evaluate your experience? What are your final thoughts?
â¶Ä‹â€‹â¶Ä‹â€‹â¶Ä‹â€‹â¶Ä‹â€‹My experience has been overall very satisfying. For those working on topics similar to my research project, I would highly recommend a visiting period at the DFA/ASP, as well as exploring the Ticino region
