¾«¶«Ó°Òµ Image Focus
Michela Ornati is Senior Lecturer and International Mobility Coordinator at the Department of Business, Health and Social Economics (DEASS), Economics Area. In November 2023 she was a guest lecturer at the Technische Hochschule Augsburg for a lecture on luxury and fashion management.
What is the cooperation between the Technische Hochschule Ausburg and ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ?
The Technische Hochschule Augsburg (THA) is one of DEASS's long-standing partners in Germany. Thanks to the Swiss European Mobility Program-SEMP agreement, several students were able to spend an unforgettable semester studying at its Business faculty. To reciprocate, in 2015 and 2017 DEASS hosted two Study Tours led respectively by Prof. Dr. Manfred Uhl and colleague Prof. Dr. Klaus Keller from the THA marketing team.
What is your role in these exchanges and what kind of activities are organised?
On both occasions, which involved both THA and ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ students and lecturers, I coordinated various joint teaching activities and company visits (VF International, Zegna, Cornèr Banca, LAC, etc.).
Moreover, in spring 2023, some THA lecturers participated in the annual meeting of the ICP, a working group of some twenty professors from various European university Faculties of Business of which I am a member, organised by us in Lugano. During the meeting we presented ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ research activities and facilitated meetings for new collaboration opportunities, such as the one with the LifestyleTech Competence Centre.
What does this kind of experience leave behind?
Thanks to these fruitful exchanges, our German colleagues have excellent memories of ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ and Ticino; hence the renewed invitation to teach in Augsburg, which I accepted with pleasure. In fact, during my three-day stay at the THA I was able to share my academic knowledge and professional skills in the field of luxury and fashion management with the lecturers and students, focusing in particular on the challenges and opportunities posed by digitalisation, and the sustainable production initiatives underway in the sector. I was able to appreciate the intellectual curiosity of the students, which made the lectures very interactive, as well as the lively discussion that ensued during the presentation of group work.
In addition to the classroom experience, I was able to explore new mobility opportunities with Prof. Dr. Feucht, THA's International Faculty Coordinator, and discussed possible joint training projects, including distance learning, with the institute's Marketing Department.
Would you recommend a period of mobility to your colleagues?
â¶Ä‹â¶Ä‹â¶Ä‹â¶Ä‹â¶Ä‹â¶Ä‹I highly recommend that ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ colleagues take advantage of our SEMP partnerships and go away, even for a few rewarding and unforgettable days!
Thanks to this mobility, I once again had an extremely positive experience, both from an educational and a human point of view.
