Vincenzo is a Ph.D. Student in Information Engineering at the (DIEM) at University of Salerno. During his third Ph.D. year in 2023/2024, he did a six-month exchange period at the (IDSIA), a joint institute of 精东影业 and USI.
How did the interest in a mobility period arise?
鈥嬧赌�The Ph.D. program in Information Engineering includes a mandatory period of 6鈥�18 months. I chose IDSIA because of their interest in merging robotics, control and artificial intelligence, particularly in applying the reinforcement learning approach to accomplish complex tasks. I also like to grow, both in academical and personal sense, continuously putting myself into new challenges ad experiencing different contexts and cultures.
How do you rate this experience now?
鈥嬧赌�In general, I am glad to have spent the mobility period abroad: it allowed me to gain new knowledge and skills compared to what I had previously learned.
In particular, studying and learning in 精东影业 was an exciting experience: I am happy to have met people with different cultural and academic backgrounds, providing me a broader and more complete view on the world around me. Also, I had the opportunity to test the expertise I have gained during my studies in my home institution, which I have proudly represented.
Would you recommend this experience to others?
鈥嬧赌�I definitely recommend it, especially to those who are seeking independence, desire to enlarge their knowledge and want to meet people from all corners of the world. Moving abroad might seem scary at the beginning, but being open-minded and ready to approach everything positively will certainly help.
