Vanessa is a Bachelor graduate in Engineering and Management. After a background in fashion, she decided to pursue this course of study in order to grow and specialise professionally.
What was your path and why did you choose ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ?
â¶Ä‹As I have always been fascinated by the world of fashion, during my studies I attended the School of Arts and Crafts of Tailoring and the Higher Specialised School of Clothing and Fashion Technology. After completing these studies, I worked as a retail merchandiser for a fashion company in Lugano and, after almost three years, I realised I wanted to grow and specialise professionally. That's how I came across ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ and the Bachelor's degree in Engineering and Management, a course that allowed me to apply the notions I had learnt immediately.
How would you describe your course of study?
â¶Ä‹My path has been engaging because the teachers propose various projects that allow you to learn to collaborate and manage assigned tasks. Challenging because, coming from the world of fashion, I had to work hard to understand the new concepts I received. And finally, definitely satisfying: seeing the results of your work in practice is something that satisfies you and gives you the drive to go on.
What is the strongpoint of the Department of Innovative Technologies (DTI)?
â¶Ä‹An advantage is the possibility of carrying out projects, such as the thesis, in collaboration with local companies. This allows them to begin to enter the world of work, understanding better what the real needs of companies are.
The lecturers also carry out research or other work activities in parallel with teaching, enabling them to keep up to date with market needs and to align their lessons to concrete requirements.
What are your goals for the future?
â¶Ä‹I would like to work in the fashion industry, as there are many fashion houses in the area with different job functions. I hope to find a job that combines the more engineering skills acquired at ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ with the more fashion-related skills acquired in my previous studies.
Is there a particularly significant experience you would like to tell us about?
â¶Ä‹Carrying out the thesis project in a company is a great educational advantage because you can apply the notions acquired to a real situation and with a company interest in proposing new solutions or arrangements. My project was carried out at the , where I was able to apply the Lean tools I had studied in class at the Oncological Institute of Italian Switzerland. It was a great satisfaction because, in addition to proposing new solutions for the company, thanks to this work, patients can reap concrete benefits in their new flow of care.
