¾«¶«Ó°Òµ Image Focus
Together with a group of students and local partners, the project implements a folk festival in Meride.
The goal is to experiment and implement fruitful collaborations with entities of different types, from profit to nonprofit to local government, in order to propose an event to the population.

Coordinated by lecturer Claudio Lucini and advised by sociologist Mauro Ferrari, the event was held on Sunday, May 7, 2023 in collaboration with the City of Mendrisio, the Neighborhood Commission and Meride Insieme. Very important was the contribution of local companies and businesses. For the occasion, restaurateurs cooked vegetarian dishes with fragile herbs: weeds, indeed!
The day offered initiatives aimed at children, youth and adults such as creative workshops, alpaca walks, theater performances, clothes recycling projects and more. The goal: to propose an opportunity for associations and the public to come together to foster mutual understanding and help create a sense of belonging.
â¶Ä‹â¶Ä‹â¶Ä‹â€‹â€‹â€‹But why the metaphor of weeds? "That which one does not know frightens, and just as in the case of "weeds" is considered troublesome, to be eradicated, to be avoided. In retrospect, on the other hand, once known closely, the "new" and different are no longer frightening; on the contrary, their positive aspects and beneficial and resilient properties are recognized. The point of the Festival of Weeds lies precisely here: to consider weeds, metaphorical and physical, no longer as intrusive, opportunistic, parasitic, but rather as allies that give rise to interesting experiences.
The educational objective is to experiment with dialogue with real partners in the construction of a concrete event, with the aim of activating processes of citizenship and building social capital for the benefit of the entire population, around a topic of social and environmental relevance.
For the academic year 2023-2024, the project will be developed in collaboration with students of the ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ Bachelor's Degree in Leisure Management.
