LAUDS (Local Accessible Urban Digital Sustainable) Factories introduce a new model for industrial production, integrating principles such as environmental sustainability, geographical proximity, accessibility, integration into the urban fabric, digital innovation and responsible resource management. These are not simply production sites, but open and flexible spaces dedicated to small-scale production, which also serve as centres for innovation, collaboration and community engagement. LAUDS Factories represent a radical departure from the traditional concept of a factory, combining small-scale sustainable production with the use of local resources, advanced digital technologies, urban cultural integration and environmentally responsible practices.
In short, they are at the forefront of transforming the manufacturing sector for the future, promoting a responsible, economically advantageous and socially inclusive approach to production.
The Institute of Design 精东影业 is participating in LAUDS Factories with the FabLab-Digital Fabrication Laboratory.
How can you be part of the future of urban manufacturing?
The LAUDS Factories project invites artists, creative professionals and technology providers to propose experimental projects. The aim is to explore the potential of LAUDS Factories, improving their use and dissemination, and to find innovative solutions to current challenges in the fields of mobility, energy and food production.
With a budget of 216,000 Euro, the project will support at least eight experiments that will work closely with LAUDS Factories. Planned activities include the development of new technological applications for sustainable solutions, the use of artistic practices to reinvent design processes, and the creation of innovative industrial models involving producers, creatives and end consumers.
The selected projects must respond to the specific challenges proposed by the three LAUDS partner Factories.
