How much good can a smile do? It already helps in everyday life, so think about its value within the walls of a hospital, where physical and emotional suffering intertwine with time that slows down or seems to never pass. Places where social interaction wears white coats. Now try to imagine how a child might experience all this and, depending on their age, be aware of what is happening to them.
In such a situation, a pause of color and lightness takes on great value, like a parenthesis in which attention shifts to surprise, fantasy, and enchantment, no longer to illness and pain. So how much is a smile worth? Even for those who see their child's eyes light up with sincere amazement when, from the corridor, not just a doctor or nurse arrives, but a Dream Doctor, with his funny and colourful costume.
In Switzerland, the Theodora Foundation trains professional artists to become Dream Doctors, who then organize weekly visits to hospitals and institutions for children with disabilities.
Today we have one of them on the microphone: Dr. Princess Wilma, aka Brita Kleindienst, actress and director. With her is Daniel Bausch, head of continuing education at the Accademia Teatro Dimitri.
